Assalamualaikum and  Salam Sejahtera,

Welcome everyone to my TSL641 blog which also the place for me to share my final semester and undergraduate journey.

This blog will also function as the platform for in-class and out of class learning activities and announcements for the course.

Weeeeee sounds exciting right? ๐Ÿ™Š

Okay everyone, let's start with the first task shall we?

*Drum rolls*

~~~
 1. Introduce yourself.
My name is Hamizah Binti Mohd Isa. I’m in my final year at UiTM Puncak Alam studying TESL. This year I interned at SMK Subang Bestari and was fortunate to experience varied proficiency of students which enabling me to consolidate my teaching and classroom management skills. This experience affirmed my desire to pursue a career in this field, to be an excellent teacher in the future.
 2. How would you rate yourself in terms of your computer skills? (e.g. expert, novice, savvy, geek, illiterate etc)
I would rate myself as quite expert in terms of computer skills.
3. What computer software and hardware knowledge do you have?
I have posses knowledge for computer software such as:-
1. Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, Publisher, Excel)
2. Adobe Photoshop
3. Video Editing software (Cyberlink Power Director, Movavi, etc)
4. Online Editing Tools (Canva, Wix.com, etc)
5. SPSS Statistic
Meanwhile for hardware knowledge, I used to repair my own laptop, install the driver, SSD and RAM by myself.
4. How do you think technology can assist learners learn a 2nd or a foreign language? (Do not Google the answer)
In my opinion, technology helps learners learn a 2nd or a foreign language through its medium of instruction and features. Most of the gadget and technology such as website, social media and games are available in English. Thus, the learners get exposed and unconciously learn the 2nd or foreign language in order to use the features provided. For example, the word "enter", "login or "logout". Even though the learner are not proficient in the said language, but they able to grasp the basic of it.
5. Have you experienced learning via the computer (online courses, using courseware, websites etc)?
I have experienced learning via the computer through courseware such as the tutorial in Wix.com and exploring Canva. Most of the time, I learned something, for instance, how to remove background in Photoshop by watching video tutorial in YouTube.
6. Did you try to incorporate technology in some of your lessons during your practicum? Was it a success or a failure? If you did not, what was/were the reason(s)?
Yes, I tried to incorporate technology in some of my lessons during the practicum. For example, I play audio exercise using speaker for listening and speaking lessons. I would consider it as successful since the activity and the use of speaker able to attract students' attention and engaged to the lesson.
 7. What is your opinion/prediction/perception on the use of technology in language teaching and learning?
In my opinion, the use of technology in language teaching and learning are very much needed and important especially in this globalisation era. People exchange conversation and communicate with other people from other country all over the world using technology. We listen to foreign songs, watching foreign dramas and learn language in all sort of entertainment and education provided by technology or more specifically, the internet.
 8 What do you hope to learn/gain from this course?
I hope I am able to learn the most effective way in implementing technology in my teaching and learning lesson. I also hope to gain a new knowledge regarding technology in language learning thus i can prepare a quality content for the students and make the lesson more interesting for them to learn.
9. What is the topic chosen for your Academic Exercise? Why have you chosen the topic? Who is your supervisor?  How do you plan to complete your AE so that it follows the designated processes (chapter by chapter) and can be submitted on time?
The topic I chose for my Academic Exercise is "The Suitability Of Pulse 2 English Textbook in a Malaysian Context"
I chose this topic personally because the Pulse 2 English Textbook had given a mixed reaction and feedback during my practicum. I was struggling to teach and convey the content of the textbook to the students because they have a low proficiency in English and they do not possess schemata knowledge to the topic in the textbook. They tend to be bored, uninterested and ignore the lesson because the topic was not something they can relate to. For example, Amish People in America. I have to edit and make a new content that cater to their knowledge. This would not happen if the textbook contains something relatable to Malaysian in the first place.
My supervisor is Dr. Wan Nur Elia.
I plan to complete my AE by following the guideline and provide a timeline that suits my style of writing fo I am able to submit it on time.
Wish me all the best!
Thank you ๐Ÿ˜
